Security on Tuesday, 23.04.2024, confirmed a foiled attempt by armed men to rob Equity Bank in Soroti City.
A statement issued by Equity Bank indicates that today morning, armed persons attempted to gain access to the banking hall but no one was hurt, and no property or money was stolen.
Police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, noted that the suspects escaped from the scene after failing to access the banking hall.
Mr Enanga however said two people -a security guard and his supervisor are being interrogated as part of the investigations.
“The bank is safe, and its operations are back to normal. The general security situation in Soroti city remains peaceful and calm. More updates will be communicated in due course” Mr Enanga stated.
This comes a day after the Uganda Police voiced a concern about rising incidents of violence posed by private security guards, including violence against their clients at guard places.
During a press briefing on Monday, Mr Enanga said police continues to observe a number of private security guards, handling, carrying or transporting their guns carelessly, which not only jeopardizes their safety and security, but that of the public, once the guns are stolen or robbed from them.
“Others loiter aimlessly with their guns, or use boda-bodas, which are all risky methods.” He remarked.
