Traders’ Strike: traders agree to open shops after meeting President Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni informed the traders that he will meet the technocrats from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and URA on 24th April 2024, for wider consultations

ENTEBBE UGANDA: Traders have agreed to end the strike and open their businesses following discussions with president Yoweri Museveni at State House in Entebbe on Friday.

The delegation of 61 leaders was led by Mr Kabanda John the leader of Federation of Uganda Traders Association, and Mr Thadeus Musoke Nagenda leader of Kampala City Traders Association KACITA.

According to a statement from State House, the discussions centered on the taxation levied on their businesses especially Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) used by Uganda Revenue Authority.

During the meeting, president Yoweri Museveni informed the traders that he will meet the technocrats from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and URA on 24th April 2024, for wider consultations.

The president also noted that he will later meet with all traders on 7th May 2024 at Kololo Independence Grounds. In the meantime, Museveni ordered for suspension of penalties imposed on traders by URA during enforcement of EFRIS system, to give room for wider consultations.
