The Buganda Kingdom administration has admitted to be the complainant behind the arrest of a Tik-toker Musana Ibrahim who was arrested last week in connection with malicious statements against the Kabaka.
Musana was picked by Police CID operatives on 17th February 2024 and thrown in detention after he posted a video on social media in which he abused the Kabaka of Buganda HM. Ronald Muenda Mutebi II, the Katikkiro Owek Charles Peter Mayiga and other prominent Ugandans.
In a statement issued on 19th February 2024, the Buganda Kingdom administration appreciated the swift response by security to apprehend Musana but also warned that the institution has teams ready and willing to apprehend more characters who are disrespectful of the cultural establishment.
“We wish to categorically state that the complaint and efforts to bring the offender to book were initiated by the Kingdom, and we profoundly thank all concerned Ugandans, who later, joined the pursuit of Musana Ibrahim, who is currently in the custody of security personnel” Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the Kingdom minister for information stated.
Owek. Kazibwe adds that Buganda Kingdom administration has overtime observed an increase of fake and misleading publication and misinformation circulated by a number of social media users that ridicule and offend Buganda cultural values and norms, and others preaching hostility, tribalism, racism and hate speech, something that is not only wrong but can also disturb the peace and good order in society.
He notes that such characters not only undermine the Kabaka but the institution of the Kabakaship and, subjects and citizens who exercise constitutional cultural rights by paying allegiance to the Kabaka.
Owek. Kazibwe warned that the kingdom administrators are ready to confront such characters.
“The Kingdom of Buganda has a team that are ready and willing to religiously defend the Kabakaship under Ssemasonga No. 1 of the kingdom.” He warned.
Ssemasonga No. 1 of Buganda Kingdom emphasizes protection of the Kabaka and his throne by all subjects.
According to the information minister, Musana is battling with charges relating to social media misuse, spreading malicious information, and hate speech against the Kabaka and other prominent people. It is alleged that Musana misused his social media X account @Presssure_24seven plus other personal accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
“The Kingdom of Buganda appreciates all the security agencies and the public for the prudent and timeous action taken and for showing their concern and love for the Kabaka and our highly respected and valued cultural norms and practices” he noted.
