The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) has clarified that Irene Nalwoga -the woman accusing government agencies for siding with land grabbers, bought land illegally.
In a video that went viral on social media this week, Nalwoga claims that a one Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe Tumuhairwe fenced of her plot of land at Bugiri, Kiwulure in Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District, but also went ahead to illegally knock her house down without any compensation.
Nalwoga also claims that she sought help from government authorities including police, SH-ACU, and Courts of law, without success because her “oppressors are rich and well connected.”
However, Nalwoga’s claims that all government institutions colluded with a land grabber are false according to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
In a document issued on 14 February, 2024, SH-ACU states that in January 2021 Nalwoga bought a kibanja measuring 50ft by 100ft from Ms Alapo Barbra who had also acquired it from one Kyagaba Charles -a man being investigated by SH-ACU on multiple cases of land fraud.
Upon purchase of the said land, Nalwoga went on to build a residential house, but a dispute arose between her and Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe Tumuhairwe who claimed to have acquired a certificate of title for the 1.16acres of land on which the plot is situated.
The document states that Alapo Barbra’s purchase for land was neither cleared by the Administrator General’s office nor local authorities, and in the light of absence of the AG’s consent as required under Section 35 1(a) of the Land Act, the sale of this land was illegal.
“In addition, on 5 January 2021, Ms Alapo Barbra and Ms Nalwoga Irene presented a land sale agreement to Mr Kasujja David the chairman LC1 Bugiri, Kiwulure village, who refused to sign it because she was dealing with people who are not rightful owners” the document states in part.
Following investigations, the SH-ACU document indicates that the DPP guided that the facts of investigations did not reveal any wrongdoing by officers at Kisubi Police Station who Nalwoga accused of compromise in handling his case file.
“It is therefore not true that Ms Nalwoga was not assisted by institutions of the state. Ms Nalwoga could best present her matter to court, given it is civil in nature” SH-ACU guided.
