Security agencies are investigating incidents sorrounding an attack last week when unknown people broke into Kibuku Prison in Eastern Uganda, and stole guns plus several rounds of ammunition.
On Thursday 16th November 2023, unknown attackers broke into Kibuku Prison armoury and stole 04 AK47 guns plus 116 rounds of ammunition. According to Uganda Prison authorities, the incident happened at around 20000HRS.
A joint security operation was mounted the next day and according to the spokesperson for Uganda Prisons Service, SCP Frank Mayanja Mbaine, all the four guns and 116 rounds of ammunition have been recovered.
In a statement released on Monday November 20, 2023 the two (unidentified) suspects have already been apprehended and are currently in police custody.
The statement also indicates that a team of inspectors from Prisons Headquarters have been dispatched to Kibuku in Mbale to establish the facts sorrounding the attack.
