Thanks for guarding ‘Sinners’ at Nyege Nyege: Museveni hails security, mocks the US Gov’t for panicky warnings

President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated security agencies in Uganda for a job well done guarding revellers at the popular Nyege Nyege festival that was held last week in Jinja City, amid threats of terrorist attacks.

On a lighter note, the president who is also the Commander in Chief (CIC) of the armed forces appreciated the security agencies for protecting “suspected Sinners” who thronged four-day fun-filled event at the source of the Nile in Jinja, with no single incident.

Mr. Museveni said the security agencies having managed to guard this massive public function and stop an eminent attack by terrorists, demonstrates the strength of Uganda’s security system which has been built over time.

In a congratulatory message he penned during flight on Wednesday as he returned from a trip in United Arab Emirates (UAE), Museveni scoffed at the US and British governments for interfering into other country’s domestic affairs by issuing unnecessary security alerts.

A few days to the Nyege Nyege festival, the US and UK governments issued warnings telling their citizens to avoid public events in Kampala and Jinja cities on account of security having picked intelligence that terrorists were planning an attack in Uganda. Museveni who in part blamed the West for supporting terror groups, also downplayed the relevance of the security advisories claiming they were issued in panic, and that security agencies in Uganda understand the security situation better, and therefore the ones best positioned to issue such warnings.

“On this occasion, however, I want to congratulate the Security Forces (UPDF, Uganda Police and the intelligence services) for successfully protecting the suspected sinners (Abasiisi) of Nyege Nyege in Jinja until their function was over without a single incident. This shows you the strength of the Uganda security system to be able to guard such a long pre-announced massive public function, the threats of the terrorists notwithstanding.” Gen. Museveni stated.

He however affirmed that is true that the “pigs of ADF in Congo” had sent a few infiltrators to try to disrupt the function of the suspected sinners.

“Indeed, I hear that the panicking Americans and British sent out what they call advisories to their citizens not to come to Uganda. These are mistake makers. If the situation was so bad, it would be us to advise people not to come to Uganda, not the British and the Americans. We know what we are doing, always. Even if a mistake occurs, we know how to handle it. These advisories by some of these actors are another form of interference in our internal affairs by these elements.” Museveni adds.

Taking a dig at the Western leaders, President noted that part of the terrorism in Africa is either created or conserved by some of the actors that try to be global policemen. “The chaos in Libya and the surrounding countries of the Sahel (Mali, Burkina-Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, etc.) was caused by some of these actors. The terrorism conservation project in Eastern Congo, for the past 20 years, is by the UN, which is controlled by some of these actors through the undemocratic structures of that body, such as the Security Council.” He recounted.

“It is amazing how the UN can supervise and co-exist with killers of Congolese and Ugandans in Eastern Congo for the last 20 years, and they are not bothered at all. They have created free space for all sorts of empty-headed pigs to gather, train, steal resources of Congo, kill Congolese and, once in a while, kill Ugandans, as well as undermining the economic future of the people of the Great Lakes.” The statement further notes.

The ADF short for Allied Democratic Forces is a rebel group operating in jungles of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is under pressure after both governments agreed on a joint military campaign to stop it. The ADF -an Islamic extremist group is linked to a global terror outfit ISIS and has committed many attrocities both in Uganda and DRC.
