Former FDC, Bardege MP Ojara Mapenduzi signs agreement with NRM

Bardege-Layibi Division MP, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding between him and the ruling NRM party.

Formerly with opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC, the recently appointed chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on Public Service & Local Gov’t, signed the MOU today at NRM party headquaters in Kampala.

The MOU was witnrssed by NRM chief whip Hamson Obua and received by NRM party Secretary General Richard Twodong.

In February 2022, Mr Mapenduzi who contested on an independent ticket moved a motion for Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake’s removal from the parliamentary commission despite having been appointed by NUP to chair PAC Local Government committee.

Zaake was successfully impeached from the parliamentary commission for allegedly insulting Ms Among on social media. Consequently, the opposition leadership announced they had dropped him from the committee chairmanship but he refused to relinquish office.

In a shocking turn of events, on Tuesday Martin Ojara Mapenduzi resigned from his position as chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee-PAC Local Government.

The Chief Opposition Whip John Nambehe immediately designated Gilbert Olanya as the new Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (Local Government).

Mapenduzi’s resignation was communicated by Speaker Anita Among during Tuesday’s plenary sitting. before he convened a press conference and confirmed the move.

It is not clear why the former FDC man is swiftly switching sides but looks like he is destined for bigger things.

The story will be updated.
