The Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom His Highness Ronald Mwenda Mutebi II has decried greed among the leaders in Uganda as the biggest impediment to the country’s prosperity.
The Kabaka’s remarks were in his Christmas and End-of-year message he issued today ahead of the festive season.
In his statement the head of the most powerful monarchy in Uganda attributed the growing resentment among the population to the selfish attitude of leaders especially the political elite, growing inequalities and disregard for rule of law.
In Luganda, the Kabaka remarked; “Ebimu kubiremesezza okubera n’emirembe munsi yaffe, be bantu abefaako bokka, okwekussa, okuba n’omulugube, obutatukuriza bisuubizo, obutawa kitibwa enfuga egoberera amateeka n’okunyigiriza omuntu wabulijo”
Mutebi appealled to his subjects to use the festive season to pray for peace and prosperity in the coming year 2023.
He however urged both political and other leaders at all levels to use Christmas as a time of reflection and soul searching to ensure integrity in dispensing of services to the people.
The Kabaka also called for Constitutional reforms to allign the country’s supreme law with the changing trends in development, culture and localities where people live.
