Family of five perish after their house caught fire in Makindye

The Police at Kabalagala are investigating a cause of a fire that killed five people in Yoka zone Bukasa Parish, Makindye Division Kampala City.

According to a statement from ASP Luke Owoyesigyire -the Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident happened today Wednesday morning at about 2AM killing five people in the same household.

It is alleged that the fire started from an unattended candle from a makeshift house of Ogola Charles who deals in picking plastics and later spread to the house of Luyomba Steven 50, killing everyone.

Police have identified the deceased as; Luyomba, Nafula Doreen (35) wife to Luyomba, Lubega Sumei, (16), Naiga Edith (15) and Andrew (7) all Luyomba’s children.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Services managed to extinguish the flames but could not save the victims, Owoyesigyire said.

“We, however, caution the public against leaving fires unattended as they are dangerous to others in case of an accident. May the souls of the deceased persons Rest in Eternal Peace.” he stated.
