75 people perished in Road accidents in the first week of March -Traffic police report shows

A total of 414 accidents occurred during the first week of March and out of these 75 accidents were fatal, 226 were serious and 113 were minor -Uganda police traffic report indicated.

According to the report from the Directorate of traffic and road safety covering the period from 28th February 2022 to 06 March 2022, the region of Kampala North registered the highest number of road accident victims with 09 death and 41 were injured during the same period.

Mbarara came second after it registered 08 deaths as result of road accidents.

Mityana highway came third (07 deaths) Greater Bushenyi follows with 06 deaths while Lugazi, Soroti, Tororo, Kampala Metropolitan South and Kampala Metropolitans East, all registered 05 deaths among others.

While presenting the report today, ASP Faridah Nampiima the Public Relations Officer for the Directorate appealed to all road users to use the roads with due care.

She noted that the reports received by the directorate shows that drivers are not respecting the speed limits following the opening up of the economy. As such, traffic police have stepped up speed enforcement today the 07th march 2022 along the highways.

Nampiima also warned school operators who use saloon cars as school vans and overload children to stop the practice with immediate effect since such vehicles are not licensed for this duty. She said traffic police will impound these vehicles and inconvenience children and the parents which both of us would have avoided.
