Operations at Entebbe Airport freeze after mysterious fire broke out in Passenger Lounge

Passenger opetations at Entebbe International Airport froze for close to one hour today afternoon as firefighters and emmergecy rescue teams responded to a fire incident in the terminal building.

According to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), a “minor fire” broke out in the ceiling of the passenger Terminal Building (Departure area) at around 3:00PM, disrupting passenger operations and airport users for about 45 minutes until it was finally put out.

UCAA spokesperson Vianney Mpuungu says, the fire breakout led to smoke in Passenger Waiting Lounges near gate 2A and 2B causing panic in waiting passengers and airport users, prompting emergency services of UCAA Rescue and Firefighting teams to intervene.

“Passengers and all the other users of Entebbe International Airport were immediately evacuated as the UCCA Rescue and Firefighting service teams handled the situation which was normalized at 3:45PM” Vianney said in a statement.

He however said passenger operations have since resumed.

The incident did not lead to any casualities, according to Vianne. He also noted that the source and cause of the fire is yet to be known as investigations continue.
