John Robert Elangot, the former Deputy Governor at Bank of Uganda has died.
Elangot, who served as the Central Bank Deputy Governor between 1980 and 1986, breathed his last at International Hospital Kampala on Saturday.
He died at the age of 87.
According to sources close to the family, Elangot was hospitalized in late September due to multiple organ complications until today when he passed on.
An Economist from Serere district, Elangot served in various capacities in the 1960s and 1970s, before rising to become the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda. He was appointed the Labour Officer, then an Administrative Secretary of the Teso District Association before joining the Ministry of Finance.
Elangot’s health condition started deteriorating in 2012 and he underwent surgery twice in India after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He subsequently developed multiple organ problems which kept him in and out of the hospital in recent years.
