At least 2 are feared dead following a suspected bomb blast that went off in Komamboga, Kawempe near the capital Kampala.
It has been confirmed that the blast went off this evening at around 9PM at Digida pork joint, situated along Waliggo road in Komamboga, Kampala.
The popular pork joint hosts many customers especially on weekends as people convene to enjoy pork and drinks while others go there to buy pork from a butchery to take home for weekends.
In a statement, police confirmed that one person was fataly injured while 7 others sustained serious injuries in the blast. The statement adds that the bomb squad is ascertaining whether the blast was out of intentional act or not.
However, reliable sources have confirmed that one person -a female died at the scene of the blast while another one (male) died on the way to hospital. The identities of the victims are yet to be established.
The injured, according to police, have been rushed to Mulago Hospital.
At the time of filing this report, a joint team of security agents had cordoned off the area and NBSTV journalists who have been airing a live broadcast at the scene were ordered to switch off cameras as security took control of the situation.
Police did not provide more details but promised to communicate in due course as investigations continue.
