Former National Unity Platform candidate for Kayunga District Woman MP, Harriet Nakwedde, has dragged the MP elect Hon Aidah Nantaba Erios (Ind) to Court over alleged election malpractice.
According to the petition filed against her and the Electoral Commission, Nakwedde wants the High Court of Mukono to nullify the process through which Nantaba was declared the winner of the January 14th election and also order for a by-election.
She alleges that the electoral process that brought Nantaba as winner was marred with voter bribery, brutality, irregularities among others.
Through a law firm -Pace Advocates, Nakwedde filed a petition on claims that the voting and tallying process was characterized by several irregularities such as falsification of results that led to the declaration of wrong results in favor the respondent.
Nakwedde also accuses the Electoral Commission for presiding over irregularities and conducting elections in unlawful manner. She raises several other grounds for the High Court to cancel victory awarded to Nantaba before ordering a by-election.
She also indicates that at some polling stations votes were less than number of voters citing Light college SS polling station where votes were less by 33 voters. And at other polling stations, votes were high than the actual number of voters.
On 18th January 2021, Rashid Musinguzi, the Kayunga District Returning Officer declared Idah Erios Nantaba winner of the race with 42725 votes and the petitioner receiving 37117.
