Mukono General Hospital is grappling with growing numbers of patients which have left medics and the facility overwhelmed.
According to the Medical superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Geoffrey Kasirye, the current situation is due to delays in recruitment of medical specialists at this government facility by the Public Service ministry.
Dr. Godfrey Kasirye claims all procedures have been taken to notify public service ministry about the urgency of recruiting the needed specialists in time at the facility but the officials have not responded to the call. He said the number of patients are overwhelming ever since the facility was elevated from Health Center IV to Hospital status 2 years now.
He further expressed the need for infrastructural expansion since numbers have doubled at the facility.
Meanwhile the Principal Medical Officer Mukono municipality Dr. Anthony Konde urged Uganda’s government and Ministry of Health in particular to increase the budgetary allocation for Mukono General Hospital to enable them expand the facility which can no longer accommodate the ever increasing number of patients.
Dr. Konde made remarks while receiving a medical consignment donated to the hospital by Uganda Christian University Mukono to enable the facility improve services to the patients especially those who cannot afford health care in private hospitals.
While delivering the consignment on Thursday, UCU’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi revealed that the batch has been given to different partner hospitals including Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital and Mukono General Hospital which are significant partners in training UCU medical students.
Bishop Mukono Diocese Rt. Rev. James William Ssebaggala appreciated the support and noted that the consignment will see their hospital go to the next level.
