The Secretary General for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Justine Kasule Lumumba, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Hon Lumumba’s health status has been disclosed by the party national treasurer Rose Namayanja-Nsereko at the party’s press briefing at party national headquarters in Kampala.
“Our party Secretary General has tested positive for COVID-19 but she is stable with no serious symptoms” Hon Namayanja said.
On 30th November 2020, Hon Kasule Lumumba announced that she was going into self isolation on advice of scientist after 3 of her handlers tested positive for covid-19.
Namayanja however noted that party activities will go on uninterrupted despite the Secretary General’s physical absence from office.
“I, therefore, appeal to politicians across the divide to carry out periodic tests on COVID-19 and open up if found positive to save their would-be contacts from being victims due to their silence.” Namayanja added.
Official records from the Ministry of Health indicate that Uganda has so far registered 22,188 positive cases with 206 deaths while 9,117 had recovered.
The NRM secretariat has had setbacks as a result of the coronavirus infections with several officers testing positive for the disease. In October, the offices had to close for over the weekend as health workers fumigated the premises following a string of confirmed coronavirus cases.
In the same month, the virus also claimed the life of Col. (RTD) Shaban Bantariza who was an officer of the secretariat.
