The Independent Electoral Commission approved 20 symbols that shall be allocated to independent candidates at nomination ahead of the 2021 general elections.
According to EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, the approved symbols to be used by independent candidates in presidential, parliamentary and local government council elections include; A Bicycle, a Pot, a Clock, a Chair, a Saucepan, a Table, a Cup, a Radio, a Table and a ball.
Others are; a Mobile Phone, Television set, a Boat, Bunch of Matooke, Loudspeaker, a Tree, a House, a Candle, a motor-vehicle and a Jerrycan.
Aspirants who belong to political parties however shall be allocated symbols for their respective political parties.
According to EC, nominations of Candidates for Local Governments started on Monday 21st September and the exercise will run until 1st October 2020.
Nominations of candidates for parliamentary positions will be held on 12th and 13th October, while those for presidential candidates will be held on 2nd and 3rd November 2020.
