Two Democratic Party members of parliament (MPs) who recently ‘defected’ to National Unity Platform (NUP) have made a complete U-turn and picked DP ticket to run as party flag bearers in their respective constituencies.
The Two include Kyotera District Woman MP, Robinah Ssentongo and Bukomansimbi District Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo; both had defected to NUP.
The DP Acting Secretary General, Dr Gerald Silanda confirmed that Ssentongo returned the nomination forms to contest for the Kyotera woman MP seat come 2021 General elections on DP ticket.
Dr Siranda adds that they (DP) also expect Veronica Nanyondo to do the same anytime and that she had notified the DP leadership about it.
Hon Robinnah ssentongo and Veronica Nanyondo were recently unveiled as new members of Robert Kyagulanyi’s NUP alongside other DP MPs in a feat that was regarded a massive defection the party has suffered over decades.
However, Ssentongo rejected claims that she had joined secured NUP saying she did not pick the party’s membership card. She said that she never defected from DP as reported but claims to be just a supporter of the People Power movement and not NUP.
DP MPs who recently declared they had crossed to NUP include Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Sseggona, Bukoto East MP Florence Namayanja, Bukomansimbi Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo, Kyotera Woman MP Robinah Ssentongo and Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi.
Others are; Kalungu West MP Joseph Ssewungu Gonzaga, Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga, Mukono municipality MP Betty Nambooze, Makindye Ssaabagabo MP Ssempala Emmanuel Kigozi, Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebagala and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewayana.
