Kasese Woman Member of Parliament and former Leader of opposition in Parliament, Hon. Winnie Kiiza has quit active politics -sabasaba has learnt.
In a statement posted on social media on Tuesday, Winnie made a pronouncement that she will not be seeking re-election for any political office come 2021 after 22 years of active service.
She says, she want’s to groom a successor and set an example for not overstaying in power.
“I wish to inform you of my decision to not seek re-election for the Kasese District Woman Representative seat in the forthcoming general election. For a long time we have talked against overstay in power, and I think it’s the right time to take the lead” Winnie said in a statement posted on social media.
Winnie stated that she can only feel successful if she participates in the election of her successor so that together they can shape the destiny of Kasese District.
Winnie Kiiza has served as the Woman MP for Kasese for the last 15 years -10 years as leader of opposition in parliament.
Winnie Kiiza appreciated the people of Kasese District and Ugandans for the trust and according her the chance to serve them.
She however stated that she will continue to push for good governance, human dignity, equality and justice.
Kiiza first served as a District Councillor representing the people of Kyondo-Kisinga sub-counties for seven years and then as Kasese District Woman Representative in the Parliament of Uganda since 2006.
