The 2020 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards were handed out Sunday night with Zimbabwe’s SHA SHA and Nigeria’s BURNABOY bagging the awards for “Best New International act” and “International Act” respectively.

BurnaBoy beat contenders in his category such as UK’s based Tormzy and Dave, Ninho and S. Pri Noir from France, Sho Madjozi from South Africa and DRC’s Innoss’B.

This is the second time the “On the Low” singer is winning the same award in a row. Amapiano Star, Sha Sha was up against Nigeria’s REMA, Celeste from UK, Young T and Bugsey also from UK, Hatik & Stacy from France.

The annual awards that celebrate creative expression and Black excellence across music, film, television, sports and philanthropy was hosted by comedian and insecure actress Amanda Seales.

During the show, Beyoncé was honored with the Humanitarian Award, which award she dedicated to the Black Lives Matter protesters.

“Your voices are being heard and you are proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain” Beyonce said during her acceptance speech.

In the 2020 edition of BET Awards, Drake led the nominations with 6 nods, followed by Megan the Stalion and Roddy Ricoh with 5 nods each. Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Brown, Lizzo, and Da Baby follow with four nominations.

Winners in the 21 categories were selected by BET’s voting academy, which is made up of an esteemed group of entertainment professionals.

Lil Wayne paid tribute to Kobe Bryant while Wayne Brady honored Little Richard. Both the NBA Star and singing legend died earlier on this year.
