The army leadership has announced that there will not be a vigil for Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Kasirye Gwanga who passed away on Tuesday morning at Nakasero Hospital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Deputy Spokesperson for Ministry of Defense Lt. Col Deo Akiiki said the meeting between UPDF and the family of the late Gwanga agreed that there shall not be a vigil at any of Gwanga’s homes in order to allow social distancing.
It was also agreed that a sizable number of family members and military officials will be selected to attend the burial to avoid crowding at the funeral of the fallen general.
Gen. Kasirye Gwanga (68) passed on following an illness that sent him into intensive care unit where his health condition has been monitored for a couple of days until he passed on.
According to Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, the tentative date for Gwanga’s burial is Friday this week in Busujju Sub-county, Mityana District.
Gwanga, a career military serviceman who retired in 2005, will be accorded full military honors according to the UPDF leadership.
The exact cause of his death however is yet to be communicated.
The body of the late is currently kept at Bombo Military Hospital where it was taken after dispatch from Nakasero Hospital. It is set to stay there until the day of burial.
UPDF will ensure all who will be selected to attend Gwanga’s burial adhere to preventive measures in the control of coronavirus spread including hand sanitizing and use of face masks -according to the statement.
