The family of the late Isanga Charles, the man who lost his life during enforcement of presidential directives by the interdicted Jinja RDC Eric Sakwa, has distanced its self from a group of youths who claim that the family forgave Sakwa.
On 15th Friday 2020, a group of youths claiming to be children of the late Isanga Charles staged a protest with placards claiming they forgave the embattled RDC who is out on court bail in a case of manslaughter.
Hadijja Namukaya, a widow of the deceased says she has 11 children and none of the youths who spoke out, are part of the family.
“There is a family claiming to be part of us; it seems Erick Sakwa paid them to confuse the ongoing investigations in the case being done by the Jinja High Court.” Namukaya said.
George Nabikamba, the uncle of the deceased whom we found at their home in Rwanda Village, Jinja also distanced himself from the group of youths saying he only saw them after Isanga’s death.
He appealed to the IGP Martin Okoth Ochola to arrest the said group for impersonation.
Nabikamba said the family was bitterly angered to see non-members of the family claiming they forgave Sakwa, yet a matter is before court. The family claims the group was stage-managed which tantamount to contempt of court.
Namukaya, the widow of the deceased also refuted claims they received money from Jinja Municipality MP Hon. Moses Balyeku as alleged by the youths. They insist they lost a family breadwinner and appealed to President Yoweri Museveni as well as the speaker of parliament to intervene in the matter.
The Chairman LC 3 Mafubira sub-county, Hamis Kiganira Nagaya accused politicians in the area including Nelson Hon. Lufafa, the MP for Butembe County and Erick Sakwa for politicized the ongoing investigations.
Kiganira says he will seek legal action against the youths who staged a protest for dragging his name into a mess by claiming he endorsed their move to “forgive” Sakwa.
He says he will fight to ensure justice for the aggrieved family, but cited pressure from “powerful” individuals behind the purported move to exonerate Sakwa. He also appealed to police to arrest those interfering with Court process.
