Jailed former Security Minister Henry Tumukunde has told Kampala City Hall court that he is tired of appearing in one shirt whenever he is brought to court. He also said he is being detained under isolation which is another form of torture.
Tumukunde who had appeared for the mention of his Treason case via Video Conferencing, told presiding Magistrate Valerian Tuhimbise that apart from the solitary confinement draining him, he is also tired of appearing in court in only one shirt for now close 2 months.
He argues that he is neither allowed visits like other prisoners, access to his lawyers nor medical attention from his private Doctor despite being of advanced age of 61.
However Magistrate Tuhimbise advised Tumukunde’s Lawyers to do whatever it takes to secure their client bail, so that he can have ample time to ably prepare his defense pending trial.
Retired Lt. Gen. Tumukunde was on 18th/March/2020 charged with Treason and Unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and was remanded to Luzira prison.
Prosecution’s Joseph Kyomuhendo informed court investigations into this case are still on going.
Tumukunde returns to Court on 20th/May for the mention of this case, but the High court is expected to rule on his bail application next week on 11th/May/2020.
This website has been reliably informed that through his lawyers, Gen. Tumukunde is preparing a separate suit to challenge government on violation of his rights including torture.
