Uganda: 4 more coronavirus patients discharged as more test confirm negative

Health officials on Wednesday reported that all 1032 samples tested for coronavirus at Uganda Virus Institute tested negative.

551 of the samples tested were from truck drivers intercepted at borders across the country, while 481 were from individuals under quarantine and contacts.

The total number of confirmed cases in Uganda remains at 55.

On the same day, 4 patients from Mulago Hospital were discharged after testing negative twice for COVID-19 raising the total number of patients who have recovered from coronavirus to 12.

A previously confirmed case, a Ugandan truck driver who arrive from Kenya, was also intercepted at Kamdini and evacuated to Entebbe for treatment. Surviellence teams are tracing his contacts.

The spokesperson for the MOH Emma Ainebyona says 6 more patients will be soon discharged after completing treatment.

The Director General medical services Dr. Henry Mwebesa however noted that a cumulative of 1,361 contacts to be confirmed cases have been listed so far in Uganda.

Of these, 1,063 have completed mandatory 14 day follow- up period and will be dropped, while 298 are still under follow up by surviellence teams.

181 are under quarantine.

The ministry of Health continues to appeal to the general public to remain calm but vigilant and observe preventive measures against coronavirus.
