5 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Uganda; Positive cases rise to 14

As of 25 March 2020, 5 new coronavirus case have been confirmed in Uganda.

One of the cases is a 63 Ugandan male, a resident of Najjanankumbi who recently travelled from Germany. On arrival, the patient was diagnosed with high fever and cough before he was sent into quarantine.

The second case is a 57 old male, a resident of Adjumani dealing in Salt trade. The patient was diagonosed with cough and flu and isolated in Adjumani Hospital. He has no history of travel abroad, but operates at a border point between Uganda and South Sudan.

The third case is an 8 month-old  baby from Iganga whose father recently travelled to Kisumu, Kenya.

2 other cases are Chinese nationals and part of the 6 Chinese who recently attempted to flee from a quarantine centre in Uganda but were arrested in Zombo District trying to cross to DRC.

The Director General mediaca services at MOH Dr. Henry Mwebesa said all the patients are currently under quarantine at Entebbe Hospital, and in stable condition.

Mwebesa said the ministry has enlisted 574 travelers who recently traveled from Dubai in the last two weeks have been identified but only 60 have showed up for screening. He further directed that those who have not availed themselves should report to Mulago Ward B for screening and assistance.

The ministry also noted that their capacity to handle responses from the public has improved with attendants at call centers increased from 20 to 100 starting today.
