The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the release of all criminals with petty crimes. This he says is in a bid to reduce the numbers held in police cells to prevent the spread of COVID 19.
The IGP Martin Okoth Ochola says theis is in line with preventive measures laid out by the ministry of health to de-congest areas where people converge in which schools, places of worship and bars were ordered to close.
Petty offenders include pick-pockets, stubborn kids, and other minor offenders including those who flaunt rules set by local authorities including vendors who are found trading in un-gazetted places.
Petty offenders are often a burden by clogging up the already jammed formal justice system
