Rwanda hands over bodies of slain Ugandans

Bodies of two Ugandans who were shot dead inside Rwanda have been handed over to the Ugandan authorities.

The bodies of Job Ebindishanga, 32 and Bosco Tuheirwe 35, both Ugandans were on Tuesday handed over to local leaders and Uganda Police by the Nyagatare District mayor Claudian Mushabe.

The two were shot dead at around 3:00 am inside Rwanda in Tabangwe Sector , Nyagatare District, when police officers on patrol allegedly intercepted a group of suspected smugglers who crossed inside Rwandan territory at an ungazetted border point with Uganda.

According to the Rwandan authorities, the smugglers became violent and assaulted police officers who reacted in self-defense shooting two dead while the rest escaped. The authorities however said investigations into the incident have started.

In a statement released yesterday, the Rwanda National Police spokesperson CP JB Kabera condemned violent behavior by smugglers and urges the public especially those residing along the common border to focus on legal commercial activities through official border points
