Kyadondo East Member of Parliament and leader of the People Power Movement Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has condemned the escalating cases of torture meted on “his” supporters and people who have expressed opposition to the ruling party NRM.
In his latest missive published on social media yesyerday, Kyagulanyi claims that since 2018 Arua By-election and the events that followed, countless Ugandans who have openly identified with the people power movement have been kidnapped, illegally detained, tortured or murdered in cold blood.
Kyagulanyi listed a number of people including Raphael Walugembe a student of Nkozi University who was shot dead under ‘suspicious’ circumstances in May this year, Mukisa Joshua William another student who was kidnapped but later reappeared with torture marks, and Ashburg Kato working with people power media team who was kidnapped and later dumped at the roadside.
Bobi alleges that people found putting on red berets and t-shirts branded with people power symbols have been arrested, beaten and detained in cells spread across the country on condition to denounce people power so as to secure freedom.
Bobi’s missive comes at the heels of the demise of Micheal Kalinda aka Ziggy Wyne who died after he was abducted by unknown people for a week and dumped at Mulago Hospital with severe wounds. Bobi described Ziggy Wine as a longtime friend, musician and strong supporter of people power movement.
According to the spokesperson of the police force ASP Fred Enanga, a death inquiry file has been opened to facilitate investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of Micheal Kalinda to ensure that justice is served to the family of the deceased.
